Location: Downtown-Chicago, IL
Job Type: Full Time
Remote Work: Hybrid, Minimum 3 days in the office to promote collaboration and interaction with associates onsite.
Salary Range: $58,000 - $78,000

 

Description Overview

The accountant is responsible for performing a variety of accounting activities, including financial reporting, account reconciliation, reinsurance accounting, and compliance with both Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and Statutory Accounting Principles (STAT). This role ensures the accuracy and integrity of financial data while supporting internal and external reporting needs.

 

Essential Job Functions

  • Prepare monthly reinsurance reports for internal and external reporting
  • Analyze and reconcile general ledger accounts
  • Review financial records for fluctuations, trends, and variances
  • Develop and prepare ad hoc financial reports
  • Maintain and update reinsurance structures for new and renewal accounts
  • Process reinsurance premium transactions and excess losses
  • Review and validate reinsurer certificates against account data
  • Update quarterly management reports
  • Ensure compliance with GAAP, statutory accounting principles, and internal policies
  • Apply knowledge of federal, state, and local tax regulations
  • Identify and implement process improvements and maintain documentation
  • Utilize accounting systems, Excel, and reporting tools effectively
  • Monitor external financial information to meet reporting deadlines
  • Manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines efficiently
  • Provide excellent customer service to internal and external stakeholders
  • Maintain confidentiality of sensitive financial information
  • Approve urgent audits, structure changes, and updates in the supervisor’s absence
  • Perform other duties as assigned

 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance required
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) preferred (not required)
  • 3–5 years of accounting experience required
  • Insurance Experience preferred
  • Knowledge and understanding of U.S. GAAP
  • Knowledge and understanding of Statutory accounting preferred
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word
  • Experience with accounting systems and related technologies
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and exercise sound judgment
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines
  • Understanding of internal controls
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive information
  • Willingness to work additional hours at peak times as needed
