The Lawyers Professional Liability (LPL) Underwriter will be responsible for maintaining and
growing a profitable portfolio of E&O business, in a manner that is consistent with Old Republic
Professional’s underwriting strategies and objectives.
This is a visible and important role working collaboratively with colleagues to develop business
with key distribution partners throughout the United States. The Underwriter will be able to make
an immediate impact with the backing of an experienced and supportive team.
• Underwrite new and renewal business submitted by assessing risks and determining
appropriate premiums and policy terms and conditions.
• Manage a renewal book of business, continuously analyzing the portfolio and identifying
areas of opportunity for improved profitability.
• Ensure our marketing initiatives are achieved and that consistent communication of our
products and services are provided to our retail and wholesale brokers.
• Actively participate in client and broker meetings.
• Strengthen Old Republic Professional’s relationships with key distribution partners.
• Conduct regular marketing activities individually, with peers and with cross departmental
colleagues to execute on marketing plans and growth objectives.
• Maintain Old Republic Professional’s reputation for excellence through responsive service,
site visits, enhanced product knowledge, and engagement at in-person underwriting
meetings.
• Adhere to Old Republic Professional’s modes of operation, which include but are not
limited to guidelines regarding file documentation, underwriting appetite and authority, and
codes of conduct.
• A bachelor’s degree is required.
• 2+ years of experience underwriting Lawyers Professional Liability, Employment Practices
Liability, and/or similar lines of E&O insurance.
• Demonstrated knowledge of core insurance product offerings.
• Possess the technical skills needed to analyze evolving risks for multiple product lines.
• Learn and understand industry-specific terminology as well as evolving regulatory and legal
trends that impact a wide range of companies.
• Proactively develop relationships with our highly valued distribution partners.
• Apply business acumen to achieve goals, solve complex problems, and establish and build
healthy working relationships.
• Negotiate pricing, terms, and conditions professionally.
• Work both independently and as part of a team.
• Self-motivated in a fast-paced environment.
• Possess effective time management and organizational skills to manage multiple
assignments with attention to detail while working under quick timelines.
• Maintain a commitment to excellence and superior customer service.
• Excellent verbal and written communication abilities, including presentation skills.
• Travel is required.
