The Management Liability - Commercial Public Company Underwriter will be responsible for
maintaining and growing a profitable portfolio of Management Liability business, inclusive of
Directors and Officers Liability, Employment Practices Liability, and Fiduciary Liability lines of
business, in a manner that is consistent with Old Republic Professional’s (ORPRO) underwriting
strategies and objectives.
This is a visible and important role working collaboratively with ORPRO leadership to develop
business with key distribution partners on the East Coast. The Underwriter will have the ability
to make an immediate impact with the backing of an experienced and supportive team.
• Assess domestic, publicly traded companies across many industries, including reviews
of business operations, financial health, managerial practices, regulatory compliance,
relevant market factors and other evolving risk exposures.
• Underwrite new and renewal business submitted to quote by qualifying opportunities,
assessing risks, determining appropriate premiums, policy terms and conditions, and
obtaining approvals when required in accordance with the individual’s underwriting
authority.
• Manage a renewal book of business, continuously analyzing the portfolio and identifying
areas of opportunity for improved profitability.
• Work with ORPRO leadership to develop marketing plans which identify opportunities for
portfolio growth and diversification as well as enhanced brand awareness.
• Conduct regular marketing activities individually and with ORPRO colleagues to execute
on marketing plans and growth objectives.
• Maintain ORPRO’s reputation for service excellence through responsive service, site
visits, enhanced product knowledge, and engagement at in-person underwriting
meetings.
• Strengthen ORPRO’s relationships with key distribution stakeholders utilizing ORPRO’s
internal customer relationship management system to share and document relevant
information.
• Adhere to ORPRO’s modes of operation, which include but are not limited to guidelines
involving file documentation, underwriting appetite and authority, and codes of conduct.
• A bachelor’s degree is required.
• Must have a minimum 2-8 years of experience underwriting management liability
insurance for publicly traded companies.
• Demonstrated knowledge of key insurance products (Directors and Officers Liability,
Employment Practices Liability, Fiduciary Liability).
• Possess the technical skills needed to analyze business models, financial statements,
operational risks, and business trends for companies in a wide range of industries,
including but not limited to life science and technology.
• Ability to learn and understand industry specific terminology as well as evolving
regulatory and legal trends that impact a wide range of companies.
• Ability to proactively develop relationships with our highly valued distribution partners.
• Ability to apply business acumen to achieve goals, solve complex problems and
establish and build healthy working relationships.
• Ability to negotiate pricing, terms, and conditions professionally.
• Ability to work both independently and as part of a team and remain self-motivated in a
fast-paced environment.
• Must possess effective time management and organizational skills to manage multiple
assignments with attention to detail while working under quick timelines.
• Must maintain a commitment to excellence and to superior customer service is essential.
• Must have excellent verbal and written communication abilities, including presentation
skills.
• Experience maintaining the confidentiality of work-related information and materials.
• Regional travel is required.
